Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian cancer is a cancer of the ovaries, the female reproductive organs that contain eggs, as well as the fallopian tubes and peritoneum. Three main type of tumors can arise from the ovaries – epithelial tumors, germ cell tumors and stromal tumors. While these can be benign, borderline or malignant, they usually require surgical management, as well as adjuvant treatment. Genetic counseling is performed in our office, and both germline and tumor testing is offered.

Uterine cancer

Uterine cancer, also called endometrial cancer, develops in the lining of the uterus. There are many different types of uterine cancer including endometrioid adenocarcinoma, serous carcinoma, carcinosarcoma and sarcoma. Dr. Kanis performs sentinel lymph node dissection if indicated.

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer develops when cells in the cervix with pre-malignant lesions progress into cancer. It is often detected through routine Pap tests and HPV screening.

vulvar and vaginal cancers

Vulvar cancer develops in the vulva, which includes the labia majora and labia minora. Vaginal cancer develops in the vagina but excludes tumors that involve the vulva and cervix. Both are relatively rare cancers.

gestational trophoblastic disease

Gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) is a rare condition that involves tumors that develop from cells of the placenta during pregnancy. It is often treated with chemotherapy, and if managed early and appropriately, very curable.
